Jazzman : La Vie en Bleu

After spending the last ten years in a drawer, the trio of the French pianist Serge Forté reveals some
pleasant surprises. Completely dedicated to French songs, he plays, for example, La Javanaise
(Gainsbourg) or I wish you love (Trenet) as standards always to renew.
If any have the ambition to build for themselves a musical identity Serge Forté belongs to
that group. Michel Petrucciani had perceived it when in 1990, he recorded a duet to help the career
debut of the young pianist. The individual qualities of the double bassist Claude Mouton and the
drummer Laurent Robin confer on the present record homogeneity and efficiency.
The live recording in two digital tracks rules out any right to make mistakes. Nevertheless, the suspended harmonies, the agreements on passage and the delays give evidence of clarity and of safety of execution. Serge Forte develops his introductions with inventiveness and lyric. The end of “La chanson des vieux Amants” (Brel) played as a piano solo testifies to the happy influence of Keith Jarrett's Köln Concert. The orchestral material is developed in the medium and twists around the harmonies of the French standard. We prefer to speak here of marked membership rather than imitation.
