SERGE FORTE BIO

* Serge Forté, Jazz pianist, composer, arranger, born 1st May 1960 in Tunis.

 

* At 18 years old, studying musicology in Lyon, he discovers Jazz and listen to all masters with avidity.

 

* He teached classical piano to pay his studies, playing with local groups also.

 

* Professor at CIM, Paris, from 1988 to 1990, Serge Forté recorded VAÏNA latin jazz compositions, with in bonus a duo with Michel Petrucciani, followed by many concerts as 1st parts of Miles Davis in Poitiers, Stan Getz and 

Michel Petrucciani at Festival Heineken, etc.…

 

* In 1992, Serge recorded the future LA VIE EN BLEU, on French Songs , and then MOSAÏQUE in 1994.

 

* Working on the style of Oscar Peterson, Thelonious Monk, Erroll Garner, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Phineas Newborn, Lennie Tristano, taking some distance from his first latin mood and going deeper in his technique and harmonic play.

 

*In 2003 comes the album, JAZZ’IN CHOPIN. Chopin’s melodies are treated here like Jazz Standards. The result perfectly illustrate the lack of border between Classical and Jazz.

 

*THANKS FOR ALL, with percussionist Mino Cinelu, recorded in New York in 1997, is a vibrant tribute to all the musicians who                                   influenced him. THe cd has been released in january 2004 and is nominated by the Fnac for the Victoires du Jazz 2005.

 

*Serge Forté is also present with his trio on the only french recording from the great Sheila Jordan, BELIEVE IN JAZZ whose title                                     summarizes perfectly the history of one of the greatest Jazz singers in activity.

 

*The album La BOHEME presents a very personal vision of the inheritance of French Song, in the line of LA VIE EN BLEU, but with 3                             sung titles, and the exceptional participation of Alain Chamfort.

 

*OSCAR...ATRIBUTE is of course dedicated to the great Oscar Peterson ! Recorded live in Paris with

                           Charley Obin (perc) and Jean Wellers (bass)

 

*VAÏNA LATIN PROJECT : Tribute to Michel Petrucciani is a Live recording, 20 years after his first worldwide acclaimed Latin Jazz album "Vaïna". Marc Michel Le Bévillon on bass and Mathieu Gramolli on drums.

 

*LIVE IN LILLE :  invited by the Lille Piano Festival in 2012 Serge Forté records the concert and offers this 

                           Cd where traditional Jazz (Body & Soul, Take the A train ...) meets pieces of Liszt and Chopin

                           reviewed through the prism of the  jazz pianist 

Serge Forte is since 2008 artistic director of the Jazz A Vian Festival and Jazz au Château Concerts series
